A Diversified Energy System

The cost of energy is out of control as current LNG supplies dwindle and too much of our existing grid relies primarily on a single energy source that can too easily be brought off-line.

Kicking the can 10 years down the road is not an option. In the short term, we need increased Cook Inlet natural gas production. In addition, I support:

• Reduced energy costs for everyone, whether on the Rail Belt or in the most remote villages, through forward-looking diversification.

• Not limiting incentives to fossil fuels. Wind, solar, hydro, tidal, and geothermal are all rapidly reaching cost parity with fossil fuels and can be brought online much faster than, for example, the AKLNG pipeline. I support incentivizing renewable energy projects. I favor small to medium hydro rather than mega-projects because they are quicker to build while protecting habitats. It's a fad now to dunk on wind, but per the US Energy Information Administration: the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE, basically equivalent to a car's total cost of ownership) for land-based wind turbines is 4-8 cents/KWH.

• Transparently negotiated tax incentives, grants, and bonds to get us moving on much needed but currently unfunded or underfunded transmission infrastructure such as the Cook Inlet PowerLink Project.
